The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUC) is the largest technical university in Transylvania and one of the best technical universities of Romania (in 2011 it has been ranked as an A class (top) research university in the domain of Computer Science and Information Technology). The University has 9 faculties, about 12000 students and more than 600 academic staff. The main objectives of the University are to provide outstanding higher education and to carry out high level research in various fields of engineering ranging from computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications and control engineering to mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

The Distributed Systems Research Laboratory, DSRL, (, part of the Computer Science Department of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, has extensive experience in many fields of the distributed systems related research areas such as: bio-inspired distributed computing, context awareness, semantic Web, autonomic computing, distributed artificial intelligence, service oriented distributed computing, and knowledge engineering. In the context of these research areas, the members of TUC collective have published in the past 5 years more than 80 papers in international conferences and journals.

The DSRL laboratory was/is involved in the research projects out of which, the following are relevant for the current proposal: GAMES (Green Active Management of Energy in IT Service centres), MAESTRO (Ontology-based Automatic Web Service Composition) and ArhiNet (Integrated System for semantic annotated e-Content Development).
